Conceptual design of smart cockpit for ultra-luxury vehicles
The Hongqi L-Concept, as the next-generation concept model of the L5, the Chinese diplomatic concierge car, will finally be unveiled at the 2021 Shanghai Auto Show after a six-month design cycle from scratch. From the initial sketches, PS rendering, smart cockpit concept design, to working with CAD modelers and workshop employees to perfect the digital model to make the final display car, I was very lucky to be fully involved in this amazing project in the middle of the project. This project not only represents the unveiling of the future product lineup of Hongqi's high-end models, but also represents the meaningful exploration of how the Hongqi design group combines traditional Chinese features with modern luxury. Therefore, we can find a large number of design details reflecting Chinese traditional aesthetics and philosophy from the inside to the outside of the vehicle. Great team, great effort. Learned a lot during the journey.
In the draft stage, the design team decided to use a symmetrical rotating hidden screen to highlight the technology and luxury of the vehicle.
The combined screen traversing both sides of the IP has both display function and decoration. One side uses the traditional lacquer process as the decorative panel, and the other side is used as the screen to carry the instrument and the co-pilot screen.
In the next step, we restored the basic design proposed in the draft, and combined the data to make a sludge model for the next adjustment.
After confirming the data, we began to model and render to try to show the actual effect of the car. At this stage, we basically determined the IP version of the paint style and the metal edging clock design.
Next is the conceptual design of the smart cockpit. I am responsible for designing the vehicle dashboard, HUD, rear entertainment screen and center console infotainment system of the car.
After several months of prototype manufacturing, Hongqi L-Concept was officially released at the Shanghai International Auto Show in April 2021. This car represents the Hongqi brand’s thinking on the future design language of its flagship sedan, an exaggerated design language still maintains Hongqi's classic design details and luxurious interior structure, which represents that Hongqi brand will continue to stand on top of Chinese luxury brands and bring users a more noble and luxurious service concept. The next-generation L-series flagship sedan will be mass-produced in 2023 in the future.
